ENVOLVE — The Future Blue and Green Transformation in Halland

Overview

ENVOLVE is a regional innovation ecosystem accelerating the development of the blue and green bioeconomy in Halland, Sweden. Operating as a neutral arena, the project connects municipalities, companies, researchers, and investors to co-create solutions for sustainable food production, marine resources, and circular bioeconomy — driving the transition from linear growth to biospheric health.

Based in Falkenberg on Sweden’s west coast, ENVOLVE brings together a growing ecosystem of startups, established industry, academia, and public sector partners to build one of the Nordic region’s most dynamic hubs for blue and green innovation.

Mission

ENVOLVE acts as a bridge between cutting-edge research, entrepreneurial ventures, and regional infrastructure. The platform supports companies working with exponential technologies — from AI-driven water monitoring and satellite data analytics to algae biorefining and regenerative agriculture — helping them scale, find funding, and establish operations in Halland.

“We are building a neutral arena where the blue and green bioeconomy can flourish — connecting deep tech innovators with real-world testbed infrastructure and a regional ecosystem ready for transformation.”

David Andersson, Project Lead

Key Focus Areas

  • Blue Bioeconomy — Algae cultivation, aquaculture, marine biotech, blue biorefining, and offshore wind energy integration
  • Green Bioeconomy & AgTech — Regenerative agriculture, biostimulants, precision farming, satellite-assisted land monitoring, and carbon farming
  • FoodTech — Sustainable proteins, fermentation technology
  • Industrial Symbiosis — Circular residual stream utilization connecting aquaculture, algae, and fertilizer production
  • Food for Longevity — Positioning Halland as a longevity hub linking functional food, health data, and wellbeing

Infrastructure & Testbed

Blue Hub Halland at Glommen is the planned physical innovation node at the centre of the ENVOLVE ecosystem. Designed as an industrial symbiosis site, it will co-locate algae cultivation, biorefining, and residual stream processing — creating a living testbed where companies can pilot and demonstrate circular bioeconomy solutions in a real-world setting.
