The Roadshow 2026 opened in Klaipėda with focus on RAS technologies

Researchers, aquaculture companies, technology providers and innovation organisations gathered in Klaipėda for the opening event of the Nordic Testbed Network Roadshow 2026, which was dedicated to Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), pilot infrastructure and aquaculture development in the Nordic-Baltic region.

The event, hosted by Klaipėda Science and Technology Park, combined strategic presentations with study visits and networking activities, which were focused on applied research and collaboration between science and business.

Participants were introduced to the Aquaculture Competence Centre at Klaipėda Science and Technology Park, where ongoing experiments and technological developments within the ProRMAS project were presented. The event also featured AquaQlt’s patented shrimp tower technology and its commercialization journey. Klaipėda University Marine Research Institute presented their projects focused on fisheries and aquaculture research.

Study visits formed an important part of the event. Participants explored RAS infrastructure and experimental systems at the Aquaculture Competence Centre and later visited the Fisheries and Aquaculture Laboratory at Klaipėda University Marine Research Institute, where current research and pilot-scale aquaculture activities were showcased.

A central objective of the Roadshow is to strengthen cooperation between Nordic and Baltic research infrastructures, testbed facilities and industry stakeholders. Discussions throughout the event focused on practical implementation challenges, monitoring systems, automation, pilot-scale experimentation, as well as opportunities for future technology transfer.

The Roadshow also highlighted the importance of creating environments where technologies and production approaches can be tested under real operating conditions. Such initiatives help bridge the gap between research and practical implementation while supporting knowledge exchange and regional cooperation.

Digital event for members May 28, 2026

You are warmly invited to this year’s digital meeting of the Nordic Testbed Network. The theme of this year’s event is data sharing – an issue that many of you are addressing in your projects, research, and collaborations, whether related to infrastructure, legislation, security, or other factors.

This meeting provides an opportunity to hear from fellow members about their experiences and best practices, and to learn from one another.

The event is structured around three core pillars: “why share” → “how to agree” → “how to implement it technically,” each presented by different members.

Program

  • Presentation round
  • “Why share” – Results from a needs assessment for data sharing in the aquaculture industry – Finn Olav Bjørnson, SINTEF ACE
  • “How to agree” – commercial law and experiences from setting up agreements – Tomas Klingström, Gigacow SLU
  • “How to do it technically” – Experiences on data sharing between organisations & achieving the FAIR data compliance – Jesper Cairo Westergaard, PLEN living labs, Copenhagen university
  • Full group sharing session
  • What other positive examples do you know of (individual projects, programs, initiatives)
  • What support organizations do you use for help?
  • Thank you and coming up next in the network

Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) is an advanced, closed water system used to cultivate fish and shellfish in controlled environments, such as indoors or in tanks. The system is designed to reuse water through continuous filtration and purification, minimising the need for fresh water and reducing environmental impact compared to traditional aquaculture.

Exciting demos at Roadshow 4 in Umeå

Roadshow 4 in Umeå was a unique event that highlighted the latest advancements in digitalisation and next-generation technologies shaping the future of forestry. The participants got an inside look at the Arctic Off-Road Robotics Laboratory (AORO) and its state-of-the-art field test infrastructure, purpose-built for research on autonomous off-road vehicles. They also got live, full-scale demonstrations of autonomous forestry technologies in action.

The technical excursion showcased several examples of how digital tools in practice can enhance resource efficiency, enable more informed and easier to use planning systems. It really gave an inspiring outlook to future forest management. It gathered a variety of stakeholders, from researchers, companies and end-users for these solutions. The dialogues and exchange between these sectors are necessary to guide future research and business developments towards applicable solutions for a sustainable bioeconomy.
