Researchers, aquaculture companies, technology providers and innovation organisations gathered in Klaipėda for the opening event of the Nordic Testbed Network Roadshow 2026, which was dedicated to Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), pilot infrastructure and aquaculture development in the Nordic-Baltic region.
The event, hosted by Klaipėda Science and Technology Park, combined strategic presentations with study visits and networking activities, which were focused on applied research and collaboration between science and business.
Participants were introduced to the Aquaculture Competence Centre at Klaipėda Science and Technology Park, where ongoing experiments and technological developments within the ProRMAS project were presented. The event also featured AquaQlt’s patented shrimp tower technology and its commercialization journey. Klaipėda University Marine Research Institute presented their projects focused on fisheries and aquaculture research.
Study visits formed an important part of the event. Participants explored RAS infrastructure and experimental systems at the Aquaculture Competence Centre and later visited the Fisheries and Aquaculture Laboratory at Klaipėda University Marine Research Institute, where current research and pilot-scale aquaculture activities were showcased.
A central objective of the Roadshow is to strengthen cooperation between Nordic and Baltic research infrastructures, testbed facilities and industry stakeholders. Discussions throughout the event focused on practical implementation challenges, monitoring systems, automation, pilot-scale experimentation, as well as opportunities for future technology transfer.
The Roadshow also highlighted the importance of creating environments where technologies and production approaches can be tested under real operating conditions. Such initiatives help bridge the gap between research and practical implementation while supporting knowledge exchange and regional cooperation.
