Skogforsk’s Teleoperation Lab explores how forest machines can be remotely operated over 5G, 4G, and Wi‑Fi, even from offices far from the forest. The lab collaborates with major partners like Fujitsu, Ericsson, Telenor, and VoySys to push the development of remote and automated forestry technology. The lab have upgraded the machine platform to a new Komatsu 845 forwarder, a modern and versatile machine that serves as a standard platform for advancing remote‑control and automation research
A key project is RöjRobot, a semi‑autonomous clearing robot designed to reduce manual labour while improving cost efficiency and the quality of young‑forest management. It uses AI, cameras, and LiDAR to identify trees and navigate the terrain, and operators will eventually be able to supervise multiple robots at once.
